What made you want to get into the sports industry?

Sports have always been a constant in my life. I can’t remember a time in my life where sports weren’t there. I absolutely love sports, and I believe in the phrase “if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life”.

What is your favorite sport? Favorite sports teams?

Basketball is my favorite sport by far. I enjoy the fast-pace and unpredictability of it. Especially in the final seconds of the game. My favorite team is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Back in 2012, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were all of the hype, and since then I was hooked on the sport and the team.

What job would you like to have in 5 years?

In five years, I would like to be working in the business and management side of the NBA.

What is your dream job? What’s your next job?

My dream job would be to be the general manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder because as a Thunder fan, it can be infuriating to see some of the mistakes the team has made. After graduation, I plan on applying for the NBA Associates Program. The program is two years long and rotates through different areas of the business and management side of the NBA.

What is a unique trait that you bring to our team?

I never thought my decision-making skills were considered a unique trait until my teachers and peers have pointed it out to me. I have always lived by the motto “a bad decision is better than no decision” because I can learn from a bad decision and improve each time.

What is your biggest sport business accomplishment so far?

In 11th grade, my high school team won Division 3 states and though I was a bench-warmer, experiencing that level of success as a team taught me the importance of teamwork and what it takes to be a successful team.

What do you hope to gain through the International Sport Business Program?

The problem with the sport business industry is that a lot of jobs and programs need prior experience. I hope to gain that experience through the International Sport Business Program.

Favorite city or country you have visited?

When I travelled to France, I visited a city called Biarritz. It was the calmest and cleanest city I’ve ever visited and it had the softest sand I’ve ever felt.

What’s a hobby, a fun fact about you, or hidden talent you may have?

Music is another passion of mine and one of my favorite instruments to play is the xylophone.

What college do/did you attend? What was your Major? What city do you reside in currently?

Starting this fall, I will be a senior at SUNY Brockport. My major is business administration with a minor in music and I currently live in Rhinebeck, New York.

What made you want to get into the sports industry?

I grew up playing sports my entire life and wanted to stay involved as much as possible once my playing days were over. Once I got to college, I made sure I took every opportunity to get involved and made me fall in love with working in the sports industry.

What is your favorite sport? Favorite sports teams?

Baseball and hockey (San Francisco Giants/LA Kings)

What job would you like to have in 5 years?

I want to run and operate my own sports business, whether that is within professional sports or recreationally.

What is a unique trait that you bring to our team?

I’ve been told that I have a fun, easy-going attitude that makes the atmosphere feel more relaxed. I also make a lot of really bad jokes (good in my opinion haha!).

What is your biggest sport business accomplishment so far?

At my current company, I’ve been promoted twice in less than a year and one of my biggest accomplishments was maximizing the amount of revenue we made in one season to increase by 20% in our soccer programming.

What do you hope to gain through the International Sport Business Program?

I’m hoping to learn more of the ins and outs of working in the sports industry from a different perspective. Since I did not study business in college, I feel that this opportunity would allow me to gain more business knowledge that I did not have the opportunity to learn previously and apply that to my future career goals.

Favorite city or country you have visited?

I haven’t traveled much outside the country, but my favorite city to visit is Seattle (in the summer when the weather is nice!).

What’s a hobby, a fun fact about you, or hidden talent you may have?

My favorite hobbies are playing beach flag football, going to concerts, and watching really bad reality TV. :)

What made you want to get into the sports industry?

Sports have been a passion for me since I can remember. I grew up playing many different sports, and remember my dad always wanting me to be involved in them because he told me the lessons learned being an athlete were very important.  Sports are so much more than big games and old rivalries. They bring people together from all different backgrounds; create opportunities to people in need, make dreams come true, build relationships, form friendly competition and so much more. I know how sports make me feel, and what they has taught me, and that is why I dream of being able to help spread the love of sports and my experience to people all over the world.

If you are traveling on a Basic Economy ticket, your personal item will be the only item you can bring on board.

Additional Details from United: https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly/travel/baggage/carry-on.html

Carry-On: Pack your carry-on wisely with essential items for convenient outfit swaps or that “worst-case scenario” of having your baggage lost in transit. Please carry your Living Sport shirts, and work apparel in this bag.

  • Casual change of clothes

  • Program shirts

  • Extra pair of shoes

  • Toiletries and necessities (Be aware of liquid volume restrictions)

  • Important medications

  • Sealed snacks – liquid is not allowed (Unless purchased at the airport after security)

  • Charging devices for electronics and adapter

Travel Basics: Pack these essentials along so you won’t get stuck paying inflated prices at ports of call, on board or at your destination.

Money: Be sure to prepare in advance so you don’t get hit with major fees or have your credit cards declined!

  • Contact your bank and see about your fees when visiting the ATM abroad. Ask if there are partner banks in Europe that you will not get charged a fee when withdrawing money. Inquire how much money you are allowed to withdraw in one day. Also be sure to inform them of the dates you will be traveling.

  • Call your credit card companies and inform them of your travel plans. This is very important to ensure you will be able to use your card without any trouble. Also ask if there are any international transaction fees with your card.

  • As soon as we touch down at the airport, you will have the opportunity to exchange money. You will have multiple times throughout the trip to do so.

Dress for your Destination: Keep in mind what activities you have planned, and the weather conditions during your travel. Some trips may take you through multiple climates, so bring a variety if needed. In June average temperatures hover around 55 degrees Fahrenheit while the average high climbs to about 63 degrees and low to about 46 degrees. Glasgow averages 15 days of rain in June so be prepared!

  • Overall dress code for the trip will be business casual to casual. Please keep in mind we are in a business setting and although we are allowing casual wear, you should always want to look put together.  Jeans, shorts, and t-shirts will be allowed. Short shorts and ripped jeans are discouraged.

  • Sneakers are a must for work days and sightseeing days

  • Work uniform for event: Khacki shorts/pants, sneakers, and staff shirt that will be distributed to you. T-shirt and gym shorts/pants will be needed for event setup days.

  • It can get chilly once the sun goes down, so be sure to pack a long-sleeve and/or sweatshirt to have with you. This will also be handy for the flight as they usually keep planes cool inside.

  • Don’t forget hats (important for sun protection), socks, hair ties and other accessories.

  • Check weather conditions prior to traveling to ensure you are packing correctly.

  • Packing a rain poncho is a smart idea. We will be working rain or shine.

  • Be sure to pack a t-shirt with your current school or alma mater for our group photo.

  • Try not to overpack. It is very standard to wear clothes more than once on a long trip!

  • To help better blend in with the crowd, don’t bring shirts with American flags, or American representation.

Skills Workshop Sessions:

  • Like any business meeting, be sure to arrive on time with a pen and a notepad

  • Plan to dress for the occasion

  • Bring three (3) copies of your most recent resume/cover letter for the one on one sessions

  • Business cards are a great idea
