What made you want to get into the sports industry?

I grew up on Long Island which is only an hour away from Yankee Stadium. My mom and I, sometimes my brother too, would go to games twice a month to watch our boys play while we sat frozen in our nosebleed or bleachers seats. That same stadium was what made me decide freshman year in high school, before even taking the class, that I wanted to be a sports marketing major. The feelings and the joy that I felt when I was there was like no other, it was home for me, and still is to this day. Another reason is because my brother had a baseball coach who used to work for the Yankees. Him, his son, my mom, my brother, and I would spend hours talking about the team. Sometimes at the games, his son, who was a sports marketing major, would test me on the advertisements, sponsors, and players. It was a fun intro to sports marketing and ultimately led me to decide that major.

What is your favorite sport? Favorite sports teams?

If it wasn’t already obvious in the previous question, my favorite team is the New York Yankees. My favorite sport to play is soccer and favorite sport to watch is baseball.

What made you want to get into the sports industry?

Since I was a kid I was always super involved in sports. From playing soccer to cheerleading to baseball to fencing, you name a sport I’ve probably done it. As I got older, I started to become more interested in the statistical side of each sport and not just the physical side of it. I became a stats girl for my varsity football, wrestling and men’s lacrosse teams. There I learned that sports were going to be my life.

What is your favorite sport? Favorite sports teams?

What is your biggest sport business accomplishment so far?

I was able to attend the Pennsylvania Sports Business Conference and competed in the Case Study Competition. My team and I ended up winning first place! The Case Study was on the Delaware Blue Coats. The task was to present ways to increase and strengthen relationships with local families and businesses, increase brand affiliation with the current base of team ticket holders, and create a fresh strategy to keep their base motivated to continue to support the team and attract new business. Through reaching out to the local community and current ticket holders via Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and cold calls, I believe we gained our edge - inquiring about how the Blue Coats could improve their relationship with the community. I am glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and into the sports industry!

What made you want to get into the sports industry?

Becoming a sport agent has been my dream since I was a little girl. Minority women are not well represented in this industry, and I would like to become a part of that change. Also what drew me into the greatness of working in the sport industry is that I would get a chance to be hands on with athletes that are heroes of today. Since several young people view athletes as heroes and role models, I would like the opportunity to help and mold a positive image of athletes. Athletes also have a prominent voice in not only on the field or on the court but also in the news and in the media. Most times they are a voice for the voiceless.

My favorite sport to watch is basketball. My favorite NBA team is the Oklahoma City Thunder and my favorite NFL teams are the Steelers and the Browns.

What is your dream job? What’s your next job?

My dream job is opening my own sports agency firm with my colleagues and building close relationships with sponsors such as Nike, Under Armour and Adidas.

What is a unique trait that you bring to our team?

My unique trait that I bring to the team is servant leadership which capitalizes on a plethora of other traits such as kindness, honesty, adaptive, relatable, and resilience. Servant leadership about serving your team and cultivating everyone’s strengths and weaknesses to work together for the betterment of the team.

What is your biggest sport business accomplishment so far?

My biggest sport business accomplishment is being a recruiting intern with Ohio University’s football team. I analyze film for prospective athletes to ensure high standards for Ohio University athletics. I also collaborate with other interns to develop and maintain relationships with future athletes. Through the analyzation of film and game-day jitters from conversations with prospective athletes, I’ve grown to have a better understanding of football and the business operations behind collegiate sports.

I hope to gain lasting relationships with like-minded scholars pursing a future in the sports industry. What made you want to get into the sports industry?

The sport industry has the power to inspire and bring together so many people from so many different backgrounds, and to be a part of that is definitely a goal of mine. Ever since I was learning tee-ball as a five-year-old, I have been passionate about all things sports — participating in competition, watching sports news, supporting local and national teams, or studying the world's top athletes.

What is your favorite sport? Favorite sports teams?

I have so many favorite sports and love watching athletes compete; however, softball will always have a special place in my heart as I played it for the past 15 years. My favorite sports teams and athlete to watch are the Baltimore Ravens, Anaheim Angels, USA Gymnastics, and Serena Williams.

Lauren Kane_photo.jpg

What job would you like to have in 5 years?

In 5 years, I have the goal of working in the marketing department of a professional league or athletic apparel brand. I plan on applying the marketing and communication skills from my USD education, past internships, and Living Sport experience to working in the sports industry.

What is your dream job? What’s your next job?

Using the marketing degree I earned from the University of San Diego, my dream job would to be the CMO of Nike. I would love to work for a company or organization, like Nike, that has the ability to instill the same passion I had as a young athlete, and still possess, in other young athletes and committed fans through creative visual media and athlete representation.

Lauren Kane_photo.jpeg

What is a unique trait that you bring to our team?

A unique trait that I bring to the Living Sport team is that I am extremely hardworking and a team player. I love working with others and getting to know the strengths of every person on a team to successfully accomplish a goal.

What is your biggest sport business accomplishment so far?

This past semester, I worked as a Digital Marketing Intern for a specialized athletic eyewear retailer to develop content for their e-commerce website. I got to contribute to the content creation of the company’s new blue light glasses for Esport athletes. This included communicating product descriptions, brainstorming the product’s tech page, and writing relevant blogs. This experience was very rewarding because I not only had the opportunity to market a unique product, but I also got to contribute to the development of a product that is a potential solution to a prevalent and somewhat unknown issue in today’s world — blue light.

What do you hope to gain through the International Sport Business Program?

Through the International Sport Business program, I would be able enhance and specialize my education in the sport industry, as well as travel the world and learn about other cultures. This opportunity would allow me to receive hands-on experience as a professional in the sports industry and travel abroad, all while being a part of something I am extremely passionate about — providing others the opportunity to be a part of a sporting event and become inspired to join in on the excitement of sports.

Favorite city or country you have visited?

Barcelona, Spain! The city is full of amazing culture, architecture, food, sports, and people.

What’s a hobby, a fun fact about you, or hidden talent you may have?
